Owned by the Italian Alpine Club, the Regina Margherita climbers’ hut (the highest in Europe) is situated at the peak of Punta Gnifetti in Valsesia (Monte Rosa). It was built in 1893, and completely rebuilt in 1980. At that time, the Bica handle was selected for installation on the hut’s doors.

Not just a climbers’ refuge, it is also a valuable research observatory for meteorology and environmental sciences for the Piedmont Region, and also has a laboratory research agreement with the University of Turin.
The refuge offers bunk beds, a bar and dining room, shared baths, electric lighting, 220v electrical current, internet access, spaces set aside for the scientific labs and researchers, and a library. In 2002 it received UNI EN ISO 14001 certification attesting to its commitment to environmental stewardship and minimum impact on the surroundings.
